Flash falls to Monmouth, downs Coppin State

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 10, 2014) – The Saint Francis U men's tennis team moved its record to 7-7 with a non-conference split over the weekend.  The Red Flash opened up with a tough 7-0 setback at former Northeast Conference member Monmouth, but rebounded with a resounding 6-1 triumph at Coppin State.

"I wasn't pleased with how we competed against Monmouth," said SFU coach Rob Castille. "They are a very good team and we needed to compete at our best in order to have a chance today. We need to play smarter against a team as talented as Monmouth is and I hope we learn from this and apply it in the future."

Against Coppin State, the Red Flash took the doubles point with three wins by default before cruising through singles play.

"I thought the team rebounded nicely from the match against Monmouth. Coppin State has some very good and scrappy players and we knew we needed to be focused and to keep the intensity high from the first point to the last. There are still some things we need to fix going into our last weekend of matches before NEC's and we will work on those this week in practice."

Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) rebounded from a slow start to take #1 singles in three sets and the Eagles picked up their only point of the day in the #2 position.  However, the balance of the Saint Francis lineup had no problems in sealing up the win, doing so in straight sets.
