WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (April 18, 2014) – The Saint Francis U men's tennis team saw its second trip to the Northeast Conference Tennis Championship semifinals end much like the first 13 years earlier.
Under first-year head coach
Rob Castille, the Red Flash closed out its season with a 4-1 loss to #2 seed Fairleigh Dickinson Friday. In 2000-01, the Flash fell to eventual runner-up Robert Morris by the same margin.
With no seniors on this year's squad, however, this season could well set the stage for an even more impressive season for SFU in 2014-15. Saint Francis earned a 10-8 mark this season – its best dual match record since the 2000-01's team's 14-7 showing.
Individually,
Chris Jimenez (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) had a solid day.
The junior teamed with
Sergio Carvajal (Nueva Esparta, Venezuela/U.E. Fray Elias Maria Sendra) to pull off an 8-5 doubles win, before dominating #4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. The Jimenez-Carvajal tandem proved highly-effective over the course of the season, racking up a 10-3 record.
