ANNAPOLIS, Md, (April 19, 2014) – The Saint Francis University men's golf team was in first place after the first round of play and earned a third place finish at the 18-team Navy Spring Invitational on Saturday.
The Red Flash shot a two-day score of 596 (296-300) and finished ahead of 15 other schools, including Northeast Conference rival LIU Brooklyn. Towson won the team title with a score of 584 (296-288) and the host school, the U.S. Naval Academy, finished second with a 592 (301-291).
Shane Crampton (London, Ontario, Canada/Saunders Secondary) earned a fourth place overall finish to lead Saint Francis, the sophomore posted a 144 (70-74).
Edward Maruca (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) continued his strong play with a 13th overall finish as he shot a 148 (74-74).
Kevin Fawcett (London, Ontario, Canada/Oakridge Secondary) placed 25th overall and third for SFU, the junior registered a 151 (73-78).
Jeremy Merich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) shot a 155 (79-76), which placed him tied for 48th overall.
Rounding out the players on the course for Saint Francis was
Chris Stricek (Binghamton, N.Y./Windsor), he finished with a 157 (81-76), which placed him tied for 58th overall.
Saint Francis now takes some time off before its Northeast Conference Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. on May 2-4.
