BOX SCORE MUNCIE, Ind. (Jan. 17, 2015) -- The Saint Francis men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest to Ball State Saturday evening (29-27, 17-25, 9-25, 14-25).
The Red Flash (0-6) struck first in the contest winning a marathon first set 29-27. Ball State (4-0) did not surrender easily; the first set featured 20 ties and nine lead changes. Saint Francis had their best attacking percentage of the game in the first set. As a team the Red Flash hit .351 compared to Ball States' .175. SFU also held an advantage over the Cardinals siding out 66% during the first set.
Saint Francis battled with Ball State early in the first set, but the Cardinals outlasted the Red Flash 25-17. The Cardinals continued to pour on the heat running away with the third set 25-9.
With a 2-1 set lead Ball State cruised out to a 12-5 third set lead forcing the Red Flash to burn a timeout. The Red Flash bench made their presence known late in the match earning back-to-back cards at the 20-11 point of action in the fourth set. Ball State closed out the final set to win 25-14.
Keith Kegerreis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) totaled a team-high 10 points for the Red Flash in the match. Kegerreis was one of four SFU players to record seven kills in the game.
Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) led the Flash in attacking percentage .455.
The Red Flash men's volleyball team looks to earn their first win of the 2015 season at DeGol Arena against Lewis Jan. 23. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
