YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Saint Francis swimming team's freshman class gave the Red Flash a strong performance, but Saint Francis fell to host Youngstown State, 158-125, Saturday.

Freshman
Emma Karell (Norrtalge, Sweden/Taby Swim Club) dominated the 200-yard breaststroke, taking the top spot in 2:23.95, while Youngstown State's Kolbrun Jonsdottir took second in 2:29.12. Karell won the 400 IM in 4:37.49, nearly two seconds over Youngstown's Madison Aranda.

Saint Francis (10-7) took three other individual wins, as junior
Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) won the 50 freestyle in 24.86 seconds, freshman
Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) claimed the 100 butterfly in 59.80 seconds and freshman
Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic) took the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.27.

Rogers and Karell teamed with freshmen
Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and
Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) to win the 400 medley relay in 4:01.11, 19.01 seconds faster than the Red Flash quartet of sophomore Mary Folz and
Katelynn Happney (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester ), Kish, and fellow freshman
Ava Shahdadian (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.), which finished in 4:20.12. Tedjasukmana, Rogers, Lafferty and sophomore
Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) placed second in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:44.85.

Lafferty took second in the 500 freestyle at 5:12.04, and Folz came in 10.77 seconds behind her for third at 5:22.81. Tedjasukmana placed third in the 100 freestyle in 55.37 seconds, while Kish took third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.47. Rogers placed third in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.23.

Happney took fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:57.32 and fifth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:43.13.

The Penguins took eight individual events, including the platform diving, and the 400 freestyle relay for the win.

Saint Francis is now done with competition until it heads to Cambridge, Mass., for the Northeast Conference Championships, which take place Feb. 25-28.
