Terriers Shutout Men's Soccer 5-0

BROOKLYN, N.Y.- In a battle of two Northeast Conference heavyweights, the Terriers of Saint Francis Brooklyn shutout the Saint Francis Red Flash 5-0 at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Friday night.

The Terriers struck for three first half goals, the first coming off a set piece in the 11th minute of the match. Yussuf Olajide deflected the ball past Andrew Garcia (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) to give SFBK the early lead. Eight minutes later, another set piece doomed the Red Flash as Dominick Falanga scored off Federico Curbelo's corner kick. Moments later, Paul Galimi scored off another deflection, putting one past Garcia on a shot from just left of the goal line. SFU would be out shot 12-0 in the first half and trail 3-0 after the first 45 minutes.

SFU was forced to press offensively in the second half and Troye Kiernan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) put a shot on target but was denied by SFBK keeper Jack Binks. Falanga made it 4-0 for the Terriers after taking a thru-ball and beating Garcia on the left side. It was not the Red Flash's night as in the 67th minute a cross found Adrian Cosovic to make it 5-0 Terriers. It also ended Garcia's night in goal as Marcus Rojas (Fremont, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) played the final 23 minutes in goal. The Flash would threaten late with Brendan McGhee (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/St. Mary's Catholic) and Francis de Vries (Christchurch, New Zealand/Cashmere) each putting shots on net, with Binks again rising to the challenge.

The Flash put four shots on net in the second half and earned four corner kicks, while SFBK put 11 shots on target and earned six corner kicks. The loss drops SFU to 6-4-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Northeast Conference. They will take on LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, match time is set for 1pm.
