Saint Francis Travels to Robert Morris on Saturday

 LORETTO, Pa. - The Saint Francis women's volleyball team heads to Robert Morris (11-11; 5-2) on Saturday for a NEC match-up at the Charles L. Sewall Center starting at 3 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
SFU snapped a three-game losing streak last Saturday after rallying to defeat Central Connecticut State, 3-2. The Red Flash won sets 25-21, 23-25, 12-25, 25-19 and 16-14. Saint Francis holds an overall record of 4-18, and is 2-5 in conference play. Maria Cup (Chesterland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) had 16 kills and added a .394 hitting percentage, while Amelia Metzler (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) led the team with 24 digs and a match-high 56 assists.The Flash carried on their momentum and scored the set's final four points, the last on a Cup kill to win the first set 25-21. CCSU would rally back in the second set, winning four straight points to lead 19-17. The Blue Devils would win three straight, breaking a 20-20 tie and would go on to win the set 25-23. Central Connecticut closed out the third set 25-21 on a pair of kills to take a two sets to one lead. In set four, the Red Flash defense forced three attack errors as SFU won the final seven points to win 25-19. Saint Francis started the fifth match with an 8-2 advantage. The Blue Devils would rally for six points to take a 12-10 lead. Cup led the Flash out of a timeout with three kills and an ace to gave SFU a 14-12 lead. Cup's kill closed out the comeback and the match for the Flash.
 
The Red Flash traveled to Bryant last Sunday to finish the NEC weekend doubleheader. After winning the first set 25-21, Saint Francis dropped three straight sets 25-17, 25-10 and 25-19. Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) led the way for SFU with 11 kills and four aces. Metzler finished with 37 of the teams 40 assists. Cup contributed with five blocks. Opera's two aces and one kill, led the Red Flash in the opening set. Saint Francis closed out the first set with three straight points to defeat Bryant, 25-21. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 7-2 advantage early in the second set. The Red Flash closed within three to make the score 14-11, but Bryant scored seven of the last 12 points to secure the second set. Saint Francis held with Bryant early in the third set, but seven-straight points by the Bulldogs clinched the set 25-10. In the fourth set, Saint Francis saw Bryant take leads of 15-13 and 21-18. The Bulldogs would score the last three points to come up with the 25-16 victory.
 
ABOUT THE COLONIALS
The Colonials hold an 11-11 overall record and are 5-2 in the NEC conference. Robert Morris split a weekend doubleheader with Bryant and Central Connecticut State. RMU dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bulldogs, 25-16, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-18. The Colonials defeated CCSU, 3-1. Last time out, the Red Flash fell to the Colonials, 3-1. Robert Morris won 25-16, 21-25, 25-17 and 25-11. Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) finished with 11 digs, and Lauren Williams (Reno, Nev./Damonte Ranch) had a game-high 31 assists. Kristin Thompson leads RMU with 262 kills, while Arden Fisher's 315 digs leads the team.
