LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis kicker
Lance Geesey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and kick returner
Lorenzo Jerome (Sunrise, Fla./J.P. Taravella) were added to the CFPA FCS Special Teams Player of the Year Watch List, announced on Wednesday by the CFPA. There are 34 players on each watch list.
Â
Geesey, SFU's career field goals leader, is 16-for-17 this season, including four-of-five from 40 yards or more. Geesey leads the FCS in field goal percentage. The Harrisburg, Pa. native ranks third in the nation in field goals per game. He also leads the NEC with 74 points.
Â
The redshirt junior, with 45 career field goals, is currently one make away from tying the NEC career record, set by Sacred Heart's Chris Rogers (2011-14). He is also two away from tying his season high of 18 makes last season.
Â
Geesey earned his second straight NEC Special Teams Player of the Week award this past week and his third overall this year. Though he didn't hit a field goal in the 21-0 win over Robert Morris, Geesey hit all three extra point attempts and averaged 39.7 yards per punt, making his season-debut at punter.
Â
At Central Connecticut State, Geesey set an SFU and NEC Record with five field goals, hitting attempts of 46, 46, 30, 21 and 35 yards. Geesey has hit three or more field goals in three games this season.
Â
Jerome leads the FCS, averaging 39.2 yards per kick return, with two touchdowns this season. The Florida native had a school-record 99-yard return at Towson. He totaled 181 yards on four returns. Two weeks later, he returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown at East Tennessee State. Â
Â
On the year, Jerome has 15 returns for 494 yards. However, Jerome has seen fewer opportunities the last four games as teams have avoided kicking to him. Jerome has six returns this season of 25 yards or more.Â
Â
Jerome has 714 all-purpose yards this season, including 105 on punt returns and 115 on interception returns.
Â
The Red Flash, 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the NEC, takes on Duquesne on Saturday at Noon on ESPN3. The winner will earn the NEC title and an automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs.Â
