TEANECK, N.J. -The Saint Francis Red Flash women's volleyball team fell to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in three straight sets on Saturday at Rothman Center. The Flash now hold a 2-9 record in the NEC, and are 4-22 overall. The Knights topped the Flash 25-15, 25-18 and 25-17. FDU improved to 10-16 and 3-8 in conference play.
Chelsea Easter (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame Roman Catholic) led the Red Flash with nine kills, while
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) added seven and
Maria Cup (Chesterland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) had six.
Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) finished with 25 digs, and
Lauren Williams (Reno, Nev./Damonte Ranch) contributed with 19 assists.
The Knights and the Flash exchanged points early on in the first set, but FDU jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Fairleigh Dickinson continued to increase their lead as the match ended in favor of FDU, 25-15.
The Red Flash kept pace with the Knights early in the second set, which featured four lead changes and four ties. FDU went a 6-0 run to go ahead, 13-7. Saint Francis forced a Fairleigh Dickinson timeout as the Red Flash closed the gap to 16-15. The Knights would score 10 of the last 12 points to seal the 25-18 victory.
FDU made quick work of the Flash in the third set, tearing out to an 8-0 lead and finally winning the match, 25-17.
Saint Francis heads to Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1 p.m.
