LYNCHBURG, Va. (Mar. 22, 2015) – The Saint Francis U softball had its historic ten-game winning streak snapped in the finale at the Liberty Softball Classic as it fell to Kent State, 6-1.
The potent offense that had been on display over the last ten games was halted by the Golden Flashes starter, Emma Johnson. Saint Francis starter
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) (4-2) was tabbed with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits over three innings of work.
Ethel Santai (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) worked four innings out of the bullpen allowing four runs on five hits.Â
Kent State scored the first runs of the afternoon in third as Maddy Grimm hit Bower's pitch over the right field wall to give KSU the lead. Janel Hayes had an RBI double into the left center field gap to push across another Kent State run. The Golden Flashes pushed three more runs across in the sixth and seventh innings.Â
In inning number five,
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) smacked a solo home run to get Saint Francis on the board.
Nicole Paiotti (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) continued to hit the ball well as she collected another three hits in the loss.
Saint Francis hits the road again to face Bucknell in a doubleheader on Wednesday before opening NEC play against Sacred Heart in Loretto on March 29.Â
