WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (April 17, 2015) – The Saint Francis University men's tennis team followed the success from the women's team earlier in the day by taking down No. 6 Sacred Heart, 4-0, and advancing to their second straight Northeast Conference Semifinals.
The Red Flash will take on No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with a berth to the coveted NEC Championship on the line. It is a rematch of last season's semifinals where the Knights prevailed, 4-1.
"The men came out today and across the board had great energy and great attitudes. This was a Sacred Heart team that while there are some new players, there are several of the same players on the team that beat us last season. So we knew we had to come out from the start and be focused and compete at our best," said SFU head coach
Rob Castille.
Saint Francis won all three matches at doubles, earning the lone point.
Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) and
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) won at No. 1, 8-6.
Lawson Barter (Chicago, Ill./Loyola) and
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Gervais and Foo-Kune picked up singles points for Saint Francis U as well.
Chris Jimenez (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) scored the first singles point for the Red Flash. Jimenez won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
"We'll get some rest tonight and be ready for a battle with Fairleigh Dickinson tomorrow," Castille continued.
