LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis softball team used a six-run inning in each half of its non-conference doubleheader against Cleveland State to win, 8-2 and 13-9.
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle), the reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Week, had five hits and six RBIs in the two games. The win in game one of the doubleheader gave
Jennifer Patrick-Swift her 100th win as Saint Francis' head coach.
Â
The six-run inning in game one came late and broke open a tie game. The Flash and Vikings were tied at 2-2 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning.
Nicole Paiotti (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) led off reaching on an error,
Jordan Seneca (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) singled and
Kate Blattenberger (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) walked to load the bases.
Elise Jancef (Wilson, N.Y./Wilson) pinch hit and doubled to right center to score two runs to give the Flash a 4-2 lead.
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) singled home Blattenberger, and Parsons followed with a three-run homer to cap the scoring in the inning to make it 8-2.
Â
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) and
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) both doubled in the first inning. Bower scored on a pair of wild pitches to give the Flash an early 1-0 lead. Parsons, Seneca and Blattenberger all had two hits. Blattenberger's single in the fourth inning scored Seneca to tie the score at two.Â
Â
The teams combined for seven home runs in game two, and the Flash had two of them in the first inning. After Cleveland State scored two runs in the top of the first, Parsons led off the bottom half with her second home run of the day. With
Kindra Witthus (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) on base after a walk, Cabell went yard to give the Flash a 3-2 lead.
Â
In the bottom of the second, the Flash exploded for six more runs. The team used four singles and a double in the frame to push the runs across. Consecutive singles from
Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and Reid to open the inning allowed a single from Parsons to drive both of them home to make it 5-2. After Parsons scored on a fielder's choice and the Flash loaded the bases, Blattenberger cleared the bases with a three-run double to right center to make it 9-2.
Â
Cleveland State got a run back in the top of the third, but Reid led off with a single and scored on Witthus' two-run homer down the left field line to give SFU an 11-3 lead. Cleveland State again cut into the lead with a three-run fifth inning to make it 11-6, but two runs in the bottom of the inning on Cabell's second home run of the game gave the Flash a 13-6 lead. Cleveland State hit three solo homers in the top of the seventh, but the lead was insurmountable as Saint Francis won, 13-9.
Â
Cabell's five RBIs in game two pulled her to within one of the team lead with 36. Parsons jumped to the top of the list with her 21 RBIs in the past six games and has 37.
Â
Blattenberger was 4-for-6 with three doubles in the two games.
