LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.- Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman)'s hat trick highlighted the Red Flash's 5-0 win over the Sienna Saints on Saturday afternoon.
The senior had three goals and an assist on the day. Her seven-point effort moved her over the 100 career point mark. She joins
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) as just the second Red Flash in field hockey history to reach the milestone.
The Red Flash dominated the stat sheet, shutting out the Saints not only on the scoreboard, but in shots on goal and penalty corners as well. SFU held a 17-0 penalty corner advantage and a 12-0 shot on goal advantage, making it a light day for
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) in goal.
Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) got the scoring started in the 24th minute. An Adamshick shot was stopped by Mary Drabach but the senior collected the rebound and found Govia at the top of the circle, who put it past Drabach for the game's first goal. Less than two minutes later, Adamshick got her first, flipping a
Carly Gromel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) feed up and over the keeper to make it a 2-0 contest. It would be 2-0 at the half.
Just over a minute into the second half Adamshick recorded her second of the match. Off a penalty corner, Gromel fed the senior who put it past Drabach to make it 3-0. It became 4-0 on a near identical setup. Gromel got the ball to
Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic) on a penalty corner. Pereira then found Adamshick for a shot in the circle, the senior's natural hat trick came in just over 15 minutes of game play.
Set pieces proved key for SFU on Saturday as they tacked on a fifth goal off another penalty corner.
Hannah Retherford (Benton, Pa./Benton) deflected the ball past Drabach for her first goal of the season in the 48th minute. The Red Flash continued to pressure the Saints' defense but would not strike again on Saturday.
The win moves Saint Francis to 2-3 on the season. They will travel to Hamilton, New York to take on Colgate on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
