Field Hockey Shuts Out Colgate 3-0

HAMILTON, N.Y.-  Irene Fritschy (Zwolle, The Netherlands) scored twice and Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) made six saves in her second straight shutout as Saint Francis blanked Colgate 3-0 at Tyler's Field on Sunday.

The Red Flash controlled the game for the second straight day, out shooting the Raiders 26-9 including 15-6 in shots on goal. SFU also owned a 9-5 edge in penalty corners as they evened their record at 3-3 on the season.

Saint Francis was in attack mode early, peppering Raider goalie Maria Krull with four shots in the first three minutes of play. However, the match remained scoreless until the 27th minute. Following a Krull save off a Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) penalty stroke, Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic) found Fritschy for her first of two on the day. Pereira's pass sprung Fritschy alone on Krull and she beat the keeper to make it 1-0. That score would hold up until the second half.

In the second half, the Flash took advantage of a yellow card issued to Colgate. Adamshick found the back of the net in the 49th minute for her eighth goal of the season, giving the Flash a 2-0 lead. Six minutes later, Fritschy struck again. Fritschy drove it past Krull for her second of the game.

The Flash were defensively sound once again, frustrating Colgate all game long. Zeiders made six saves to earn her second straight clean sheet. The Raiders best chance may have come in the 60th minute, where off a penalty corner, Carly Gromel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) got in front of a Stina Ladd shot to help preserve the shutout.

The win evens Saint Francis at 3-3 on the season, they return home next Sunday to DeGol Field to take on Rider, Match time is set for 1 p.m.
