Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Dan Griffin

Volleyball Knocked Off by High Point

LORETTO, Pa.- Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) led the Red Flash with 13 digs but SFU could not stop a hot-hitting High Point Panther squad in a three-set loss in the Red Flash Classic.

The 24-26, 12-25, 12-25 loss drops SFU to 2-12 on the season while High Point improves to 8-6 on the season.

The first set saw 15 ties and a trio of lead changes as the teams battled back-and-forth. Neither team had a lead larger than four points the entire set, and that was quickly erased on a strong Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) service game. The Red Flash erased the lead by winning four of five points and getting an ace from Maria Cup (Chesterland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy). From there, the Panthers would continually take a one-point lead, only to see the Red Flash tie. Sophie Murdock (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion ) fought off set point number one for High Point with a kill but a service error and an attack error gave set one to the Panthers.

In set two, High Point raced out to an early 9-2 lead and didn't look back. The Red Flash were unable to get closer than seven after the early surge as SFU dropped set two 25-12. Set three saw the Red Flash erase an early run by the Panthers as Kelsey Roush (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) had a pair of kills to close the High Point lead to two. However, the Panthers rolled off eight-straight points to build a 21-11 advantage. Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) had a kill to stop the run but the Red Flash could not close the gap as High Point closed out the match in three sets.

Saint Francis will close out the 2015 Red Flash Classic this evening when they host Coppin State at 7 p.m. The Eagles knocked off Fordham in Saturday's opening match.
