ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Saint Francis women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 result at Navy on Saturday.  The Red Flash lost the doubles point, but junior Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) earned a singles win at No. 5.  SFU is now 0-2 this spring.  The Midshipmen improved to 2-1.

At the top doubles spot, senior Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) and junior Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) matched up against Navy's Audrey Channell and Anastasia Kondrasov.  The Red Flash duo fell 6-4 in the set.

Senior Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) and freshman Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) combined in the match at No. 2, but dropped a 6-0 result to the Midshipmen's Rozel Hernandez and Kristine Rojo.

In the match at No. 3, Saint Francis freshman Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and junior Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) competed against Navy's Carlee Conway and Catalina Rico, but fell 6-3 as the Midshipmen clinched the doubles point.

Jentz took on Navy's Sabrina Jiang in the matchup at the No. 5 singles position.  After Jiang won the first set, 6-4, Jentz responded by winning a tough second set, 7-6, including 7-5 in the tiebreaker.  In a super-tiebreaker third set, Jentz came out on top, 10-3, to earn her first win of the spring.

At the No. 2 singles spot, Bode battled Claudia MacKenzie in a three-set match.  After falling 6-2 in the first set, Bode bounced back to claim the second set, 6-3.  In a deciding super-tiebreaker third set, MacKenzie won 10-7.

Plaszewski also played a three-set match, with hers coming at No. 3 singles against the Midshipmen's Sam Droop.  After dropping the first set, 6-3, the junior responded with a 6-2 set win.  In the final set, Droop came out on top, 6-2.

At the top singles spot, Panizza dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision against Navy's Amanda Keller, while Gryckiewicz fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 against Logan Antill.  At No. 6, Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) competed against Summer Ralston, but fell 6-3, 6-2.

"I was very pleased with how we improved from our last match," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "The girls competed really well today and battled with a very solid Navy team. We will definitely need to focus on doubles this week and emphasize getting off to a quick start. With the new format, we can't afford to start off slowly. Overall, I like the improvements and adjustments the girls made and I'm looking forward to our next match."

The Red Flash returns to action on Friday, January 22 at Niagara for a 5 p.m. match.  Saint Francis will then take on Buffalo on Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest.
