Football Announces 2016 Signing Class

LORETTO, Pa. - The Saint Francis football team has announced its 2016 signing class.  Twenty-four players will be joining the Red Flash for the 2016 season. 

The group includes 10 signees from Pennsylvania, three from Maryland, two each from New Jersey, New York and Virginia and one each from California, Florida, Massachusetts, Ohio and Texas.

The position breakdown of the class includes a quarterback, two running backs, a fullback, four receivers, a tight end, two offensive linemen, two defensive linemen, four linebackers, five defensive backs, a long snapper and a kicker.

Head Coach Chris Villarrial led the Red Flash to a 7-4 record in 2015, the program's first winning season since 1992.  SFU finished second in the NEC with a 4-2 mark in conference play and went 5-0 at home.

Beaty played at St. John-Vianney High School for Head Coach Derek Sininsky… Helped the Lancers to an 11-1 record in 2015, including a perfect record in conference play and a trip to the Non-Public League Championship game… Made 46 tackles in 2015, including six for loss and two sacks… As a junior in 2014, also had 46 stops, including 4.5 sacks… As a running back, Beaty had 322 yards and six touchdowns in his career.

A three-year captain, Beistel played at Southmoreland High School for Head Coach Mark Adams with fellow signee Doug Leighty… Lined up at center and defensive tackle for the Scotties… Selected Second Team All-State in Class AA as a senior… Beistel was a four-time All-Conference selection, including three First Team honors… Named a Terrific 25 selection three times in his career… As a senior, made 67 tackles, including 13 for loss and four sacks.  He also forced two fumbles and three recoveries.  He also blocked a field goal.

Campbell played at Riverdale Baptist and was a one-year team captain for Head Coach Caesar Nettles… Lined up at running back for the Crusaders… 2014 All-Capitol Area Football Conference Selection… Participated in the 2015 National Prep Top Dawg Combine and had the top Bench Press among the Receiver/Defensive Back group… Earned the 2015 Coaches Award at Riverdale Baptist for being the most coachable player and the 2014 Crusader Award, which is a character award… As a senior, ran for 274 yards and three touchdowns on 49 carries, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.  Added 12 catches for 255 yards and a score.  Had an 80-yard touchdown reception in the season opener.

Lebanon High School for Head Coach Mike Melnyk… Led the Blue Devils to a 9-2 record in 2015, playing offensive and defensive tackle… Honorable Mention All-Conference as a senior after earning Second Team honors as a junior… Invited to Nokaoi Football Showcase in Hawaii… As a senior, totaled 28 tackles, including 14 solo and 11 for loss, while accounting for five sacks…  Cazin accounted for 28 tackles as a junior, with 20 solo and three sacks.

Heiple played at Somerset High School for Head Coach Bob Landis… Heiple led the Eagles to a 9-3 record in 2015… Helped the Eagles reached the PIAA AAA Semifinals in 2014, ending the year with a 14-2 record… Heiple earned Honorable Mention All-State in Class AAA after earning Second Team All-State honors in 2014 as a defensive back… Named First Team All-Area as a running back by the Johnstown Democrat… Selected 2014 Gold Academic All-Star by Pennsylvania Football News… Earned Buffalo Wild Wings National Player of the Week honors in September 2015… Totaled almost 2,900 rushing yards in his career, with 44 rushing touchdowns. Added 27 catches for 309 yards and two scores.  Also had two punt reutrns and a kick return for a touchdown… In 2015, Heiple recorded 59 tackles, with 26 solo and two sacks, while also intercepting four passes, which he returned for a total of 121 yards… As a junior, Heiple had 56 tackles, with seven for loss, along with four interceptions, including two pick-six's. … Heiple also played basketball at Somerset.
