LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis field hockey team fell 2-1 to Saint Joseph's in a hard-fought conference matchup on Friday afternoon at DeGol Field.

Saint Francis (8-7, 1-4) pressured early in the first half. SFU was award three penalty corners within the first six minutes. Pereira, Kali Thies (Newton, N.J./Hackettstown) and Carly Gromel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) all fired shots on goal but they were turned away by SJU goalie Victoria Kammerinke.

Saint Joseph's (10-5, 5-0) flipped the switch and started to attack the SFU defense, but they stood tall. Saint Francis would continue to push the pace, as SFU had a pair of shots blocked.

Saint Joseph's scored first in the 27th minute, as Anna Willocks beat a couple of Flash defenders. The score would remain 1-0 heading into the half.

The second half continued to see the Flash pressure. Pereira would score the equalizer in the 44th minute, as she scored from 10 yards out to beat Kammerinke far post. However, the tie would not last long. Three minutes later, Willocks scored her second goal of the match off a scrum in front of the net to give SJU a 2-1 lead.

The Flash kept the offensive attack up looking to tie the score. With less than two minutes left in the match, Saint Francis looked to capitalize on two Saint Joseph's green cards, but would not score as SJU hung on for the victory.

The Hawks outshot the Flash, 14-7, while Saint Francis held a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners. Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) made 10 for Saint Francis, while Kammerinke tallied four for Saint Joseph's.

Saint Francis returns to action on Sunday as the host VCU at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
