LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis field hockey team defeated LaSalle, 3-2, in a winner-take-all overtime thriller on Friday at DeGol Field.
Livvy Webb (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) notched the game-winner for the Flash just nine minutes into overtime.
Saint Francis (11-7, 4-4) clinched a spot in the A-10 Tournament with the win over La Salle (7-9, 4-4).
It was the Explorers who got on the scoreboard first after Logan Oh reversed a shot past Saint Francis goalkeeper
Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick). April Stein would be credited with the assist.
Saint Francis was awarded a penalty corner with no time left in the first period and would tie the match at 1-1.
Brea Seabrook (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) found
Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic) on the left side of the cage to beat La Salle goalie Rachel Hartman.
Just nine minutes into the second half,
Kyra Castano (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) found the back of the net to break the tie. Castano scored off a rebound that bounced to her in front of the net. The Explorers answered in the 59th minute to knot the score at 2-2. Kendall Kreider scored off a rebound in the circle.
Saint Francis dominated the overtime period, outshooting La Salle, 4-0.
Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name)Â had a great chance early in overtime but had her shot stopped by Hartman. In the 80th minute, Seabrook found Webb on the left side of the cage and fired a shot past Hartman for the overtime winner. The goal was Webb's first of her career.
Saint Francis totaled 11 shots compared to 10 for the Explorers. The Red Flash also notched seven penalty corners, compared to five for La Salle. Dyer finished with two saves in net.
The Flash closes out the regular season on Sunday against Kent State at 1 p.m.
