Football Earns Big NEC Road Win, 38-17, at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Quarterback Zack Drayer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey ) tied a school-record with four touchdown passes and receiver Kamron Lewis (Fresno, Calif./Edison) also tied a school-record with three receiving touchdowns to lead Saint Francis to a big 38-17 win at Sacred Heart on Saturday.  The Red Flash improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the NEC, while Sacred Heart fell to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
 
Saint Francis has a five-game win streak for the first time since 1992.  The Red Flash is 4-0 in conference play for the first time since joining the NEC.
 
The Red Flash posted a season-high 511 total yards, including 316 passing yards and 201 rushing yards. 
 
Drayer topped the 300-yard passing mark to set a new career-high.  He completed 20-of-28 passes and tied his a school-record with four touchdowns.  Drayer also threw for four touchdowns against Wagner in 2014.  He added 23 rushing yards on three carries.
 
Drayer also passed the 5,000-yard mark for his career and now has 5,258 yards for his career, just 122 yards from moving into third-place all-time at SFU, currently held by Kevin Magee(1991-93).
 
The senior quarterback now has 45 career passing touchdowns, tying John Kelly (2009-12) for second all-time at SFU.
 
Lewis also tied a school-record with three touchdown catches, with all three coming in the second half.  Lewis topped the 100-yard mark for the fifth time this season and totaled 184 yards on 10 catches. 
 
The sophomore now has 1,038 yards on the year for the second-most receiving yards in a single-season.  395 yards to pass the single-season record set by Michael Caputo in 2005.
 
Freshman Avery Miliner (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) appeared in a game for the first time in his Red Flash career and led the Red Flash with 96 yards on eight carries.  Jymere Jordan-Toney (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin) had 61 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. 
 
Junior Ajayi (Delran, N.J./Holy Cross) had three catches for 15 yards, while Myles Brooker (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) had two receptions for 46 yards.  Tight end Coin Hindle added a 26-yard touchdown reception.
 
Lance Geesey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) hit a 34-yard field goal and connected on all five extra point attempts.  Geesey now has 51 career field goal makes.  He also now has 115 career extra points, moving into first all-time at Saint Francis, passing Josh Thiel (2009-12).
 
Saint Francis held Sacred Heart to 278 total yards, including just 111 passing yards.  SHU quarterback RJ Noel completed 15-of-31 passes and threw two touchdown passes.  Running back Ose Imeokparia led SHU with 62 yards on 13 carries, while Nate Chavious had eight carries for 53 yards.  Moses Webb had five catches for 50 yards and a score, while Andrew O'Neill added a touchdown grab. 
 
Safety Delondo Boyd (Indian Head, Md./Henry E. Lackey) led the Saint Francis defense with 11 tackles, seven solo, and added a pass breakup.  Linebackers Ben Bruni (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and Solomon Leaeno (Kapolei, Hawaii/James Campbell) had nine stops each, with Leaeno also recording a pass breakup.  Safety Robert Miller (Coral Springs, Fla./Taravella) had eight tackles, while defensive end Shawn McCord (Aberdeen, N.J. /Red Bank Catholic) had six tackles, including a sack. 
 
Nose tackle Wesley Nagaseu (Waipahu, Hawaii/Waipahu) had four tackles, with a sack and two pass breakups, while linebacker Glenn Cross (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) had two tackles, with one for loss.  Cornerback Malik Duncan (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) recorded two tackles and three pass breakups.
 
The Red Flash got on the board first, with a three-yard touchdown run by Jordan-Toney.  After a short kickoff, SFU started the drive at its own 40.  Drayer made a couple big plays on the drive, including a 14-yard scramble for a first down.  Later in the drive, Drayer fought off a defender to find Jordan-Toney along the sideline.  Jordan-Toney gained 25 yards on the play to setup SFU with First and Goal at the 4. Four plays later, Jordan-Toney found his way in on a run up the middle.  Geesey's extra point gave SFU a 7-0 lead with 9:06 left in the first quarter.
 
Saint Francis extended its lead to 10-0 with Geesey's 34-yard Field Goal in the second quarter.  The eight-play, 47-yard drive included a 17-yard catch by Brooker to help setup the field goal.  Geesey's kick went through with 14:11 left in the second quarter.
 
The Pioneers answered with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Noel to Webb with 11:35 to go in the half.  On third and eight at the SFU 11, Noel hit an open Webb on a crossing route over the middle.
 
However, Saint Francis responded with its own passing touchdown, this one a 26-yard score from Drayer to Hindle with 7:38 to go in the second quarter.  The Red Flash went 64 yards in seven plays, including three catches by Lewis for a total of 25 yards.  On 2nd and 6 at the SHU 26, Drayer rolled out to his right on a play-action and found a wide open Hindle down the right sideline.  Geesey's extra point extended the SFU lead to 17-7.
 
Sacred Heart hit a field goal to cut the SFU lead to 17-10 with 4:29 remaining in the half.  Alec Finney converted a 25-yard attempt to conclude an 11-play, 68-yard drive.  Chavious had three runs for 36 yards on the drive.
 
The Pioneers tied the score at 17-17 with a four-yard touchdown pass from Noel to O'Neill in the third quarter with 8:42 to go in the quarter.  The pass over the middle concluded a seven-play, 36-yard drive after an SHU interception. 
 
The Red Flash responded with its own touchdown drive, ending in a five-yard touchdown pass from Drayer to Lewis.  After starting the drive at the SFU 44, a 25-yard pass to Lewis and a 29-yard catch by Brooker helped set up SFU with First and Goal at the SHU 8.  Two plays later, Drayer hit Lewis on a fade pass to the right corner of the end zone.  Geesey's extra point extended the SFU lead to 24-17 with 4:59 left in the third quarter.
 
Drayer connected with Lewis for a second touchdown, this time a seven-yard score with 12:08 left in the game.  Miliner broke a 74-yard run, but was tripped up at the two yard-line to setup First and Goal.  Two plays later, and after a false start on SFU, Drayer hit Lewis on another fade pass, this time to the left corner of the end zone.  Geesey's PAT made it 31-17 SFU.
 
The Red Flash finished off its scoring on a 73-yard touchdown catch by Lewis, his third of the day and Drayer's fourth touchdown pass. After hitting Lewis for a seven-yard gain on the first play of the drive, Drayer connected with Lewis over the middle, with Lewis taking it the rest of the way for the score.  The scoring was capped off at 38-17 after a Geesey extra point with 9:49 remaining.
 
The Red Flash has a bye week this upcoming weekend before returning to action on Saturday, November 12 as it hosts Central Connecticut State for Senior Day at DeGol Field.  The Blue Devils are 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference after falling 19-6 at Robert Morris on Saturday.
