LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams open up their home schedules this weekend. The men's team hosts Youngstown State on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Ebensburg Tennis Center. On Saturday, the Red Flash takes on Carnegie Mellon at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville. The women's team battles the Tartans at 2:45 p.m, with the men's match beginning at 3:45 p.m.
The Saint Francis men's team is 4-1 after splitting two matches last weekend. The Red Flash defeated Lafayette, 7-0, on Saturday, but fell, 5-2, at Lehigh on Sunday.
Senior
Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) and junior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) each earned two singles wins this past weekend.
Gervais is 5-0 this spring, while Avuski is now 3-0. Freshman
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) has four singles victories this spring, while junior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School), sophomore
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and junior
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) all have three wins. Freshman
Robin van der Heijden (Burgh Haamstede, Netherlands/Scheldmond College) has two victories.
In doubles, Foo-Kune and Gervais are 4-1 at the top doubles spot, while Avuski and Suntar have combined to also go 4-1, splitting time between the No. 2 and 3 spots.
Youngstown State is 2-4 this season. Last weekend, they dropped a 6-3 decision at NYIT and a 7-0 result at St. John's. The Penguins have wins over Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. Senior Hugo Morth is 4-2 at the No. 1 singles spot.
Carnegie Mellon is 3-1 after defeating Walsh, 6-3, last Saturday. The Tartans also have wins over Grove City and Oberlin. Freshman Vayum Arora is 4-0 this spring, splitting time at No. 3, 5 and 6. Abhishek Alla and Kunal Wadwani have a win each at the top singles spot.
The Saint Francis women's team is 1-5 after picking up its first win last weekend, a 6-1 victory at Lafayette. However, the Red Flash also dropped a 7-0 decision at Lehigh.
The Red Flash defeated the Leopards by winning the doubles point and five of six singles matches. Senior
Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) claimed her first win of the year at No. 1 singles, while freshman
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and junior
Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) each picked up their season victory of the spring. Junior
Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) also has two wins this spring.

Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) went 1-1 at No. 1 doubles last weekend.
The Tartans are 5-0 this season, including wins over California (Pa.) and Slippery Rock last weekend. Carnegie Mellon also has wins over Grove City, Oberlin and Seton Hill. Senior Brooke Tsu is 3-1 this spring, including two wins at No. 1, while freshman Jamie Vizelman is 4-0 while splitting time between No. 2 and No. 4.
