EASTON, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's tennis team earned a 7-0 road win at Lafayette on Saturday.  The Red Flash improved to 4-0 with the win, including their third shutout of the season.  SFU won the doubles point and did not drop a set in singles action.

At the No. 2 doubles position, junior Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) and Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) competed against the Leopards' Mason Keel and Gavin Studner.  The SFU pair earned a 6-4 victory to clinch the doubles point.  They also moved to 4-0 this spring, with this as their first win after being moved up to No. 2 in the lineup.

At the third doubles spot, junior Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) and Robin van der Heijden (Burgh Haamstede, Netherlands/Scheldmond College) paired up to face Chris Kim and Andrew Reed.  However, the Leopard pair won 6-3.

Gervais competed at the top singles spot against Lafayette's Stefanowicz.  The Red Flash senior dominated the opening set, 6-0.  He nearly repeated his performance in the second set, winning 6-1.  He improved to 4-0 this season, with all of his wins at the No. 1 position.

The sophomore, Foo-Kune, matched up at No. 2 against Studner.  In the opening set, Foo-Kune won, 6-2.  He completed the straight-set victory with a 6-4 win in the second set.  He is now 3-1 this spring.

At the fourth spot, Tico competed against the Leopards' Keel.  In a tight opening set, Tico came out on top, 7-6, including an 8-6 win in the tiebreaker.  He kept his momentum going in the next set, winning 6-3.  He improved to 3-1 this spring.

Avuski matched up against Reed at the No. 5 spot.  The junior claimed the opening set, 6-2.  He repeated his performance in the following set, earning a 6-2 victory.  He is now 2-0 in dual matches.

Junior Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) faced Lafayette's Matt DeBenedetto at the No. 6 position in the lineup. Cerdan dominated the first set, winning 6-0.  He completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in the second set.  He is now 3-0 this spring.

"This was the first match of the year for Lafayette," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "While I thought there might be some nerves and a little rust early from them, I knew they would be fired up to get the Spring season started. So I was happy to see my guys focused and intense. I'm still not happy with doubles and it's something we need to get right. Some of us are still playing too tentatively at times. This was a good match against a scrappy team. We'll put this behind us and get ready for a very solid Lehigh team."

The Red Flash takes on Lehigh tomorrow at 2 p.m.  The Mountain Hawks defeated Drexel, 4-3, in their spring debut on Saturday.
