Women’s Tennis Downed, 7-0, at Lehigh on Sunday

Junior Brittini Jentz
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's tennis team fell 7-0 at Lehigh on Sunday.  The Red Flash dropped the doubles point and all six singles matches.  SFU split their weekend matches, winning Saturday's at Lafayette.  The Red Flash are now 1-5 this spring.

Freshman Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and senior Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) dropped a 6-3 match at the top doubles spot against Christina Auyeung and Jamie Campisi.

At No. 2 doubles, junior Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) and freshman Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) fell 6-3 in a matchup against the Mountain Hawks' Cassidy Cruz and Briana Maravich.

Lehigh won the match at No. 3 by default due to no SFU player available.

Senior Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) competed at the top singles spot against Auyeung, but fell 6-3, 6-3.  At No. 2, Bode matched up against Lehigh's Grace Lin.  However, Bode dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision.

At the third singles position, Jentz took on Cruz.  The Red Flash junior was downed 6-2, 6-4.  Miller held the fourth spot in the lineup, but fell 6-3, 6-3 against Briana Maravich.

The senior, Gryckiewicz, competed in a one-set match against Campisi at No. 5 singles.  However, Gryckiewicz fell 8-5.

Lehigh won the match at No. 6 by default due to no SFU player available.

"This wasn't our best effort and against a strong, well-coached team like Lehigh, we can't afford to not be at our best," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "I need to sit down with the girls and we need to evaluate several things and get this season back on track. We have a lot of potential, but I am not happy with where we are at this point in the season. The good news is we have almost three months to correct it before the conference tournament. We'll look to have a good week of practice and be ready to play against a very good Carnegie Mellon team."

The Red Flash is back in action next Saturday as they host Carnegie Mellon in the first home match of the season.  The match begins at 2:45 p.m. at Club Sport and Health in Monroeville, Pa.
