DOVER, Del. – Thanks to a well-balanced offensive attack, the Saint Francis women's lacrosse team powered past Delaware State, 20-6, on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
In just her second game as head coach,
Kara Concheck got her first career win.
The Flash snapped a six-game losing streak and improves to 2-6 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 2-6.
Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) finished with a career-high four goals, while
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) recorded her second four-goal performance of the season.
Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) earned her second win of the season in net, and posted eight saves.
Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) led the Flash with four draw controls and two ground balls.
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) dished out a game-high five assists.
Delaware State got on the board first just three minutes into the first period to lead, 1-0. A Mazzur free positon goal highlighted a 5-0 run for the Flash, and jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The Hornets answered at the 13:44 mark to pull within three at 5-2. A
Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) free position goal extended the Flash lead to 6-2.
Ingram stuck once and Mazzur struck twice to give SFU an 8-3 advantage.
Morgan Day (New Park, Pa. /Kennard Dale) and
Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) found the back of the net to stretch the Flash lead to 10-3. With 54 seconds left to play in the first half, DSU scored to end a 12-minute scoring drought to head into the break with the Flash leading, 10-4.
The Flash scored five goals to open the second half before the Hornets scored at the 19:55 mark to make the score, 15-6, in favor of Saint Francis. Day scored then
Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored to put the Flash up by 12 at 18-6.
Mazzur and Lawrence would each score a goal down the stretch to give the Flash the win, 20-6.
SFU outshot DSU, 21-14. The Flash were a perfect 4-4 on clear attempts.
Saint Francis returns home next Saturday against St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.
