Men's Volleyball Hosts No. 13 Lewis, No. 12 Loyola This Week

LORETTO, Pa. –  After coming off an historic weekend, the Saint Francis men's volleyball team puts their eight-game winning streak on the line this week, as they host No. 13 Lewis University on Thursday and No. 12 Loyola University on Friday. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE FLASH
 
The Flash is currently riding an eight-game win streak - the longest in program history. Saint Francis knocked off No. 6 Penn State last Friday, 3-1. The Flash handed the Nittany Lions their first conference home loss since 1998. The sixth-ranked Nittany Lions was the highest-ranked team Saint Francis has ever beaten. SFU has defeated three ranked opponents so far in the season, which is the most in men's volleyball history.  
 
Saint Francis is 13-6 on the season and sits in third in the EIVA with a record of 5-3. Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) paces the offensive attack for the Flash. The outside hitter has accumulated 237 kills on the season. Gabe Woffindin (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) leads the Flash with 136 digs on the year, while Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central)'s .379 hitting percentage leads the EIVA, and averages 0.94 blocks per set. Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) leads the squad with 612 assists, and averages 9.87 assists per set.
 
ABOUT THE FLYERS
 
The Flyers enter Thursday's matchup with a 14-10 record and is 8-5 in the MIVA. Lewis sweep Princeton, Quincy and Lindenwood last weeek.  Mitch Perinar leads the Flyers with 206 kills and averages 3.12 kills per set. Setter Scott Fifter has dished out 793 assists, which leads the MIVA. Bobby Walsh leads the nation in hitting percentage with .508.
 
The Flash defeated the Flyers, 3-2, in a five-set thriller on Jan. 15. Both teams traded set throughout the match, but Saint Francis took the fifth and final set, 15-8. Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Flash with a season-high 23 kills. LU leads the all-time series, 16-2.
 
ABOUT THE RAMBLERS
 
Loyola is also coming off a three-match sweep against Princeton, Quincy and Lindenwood last week. The Ramblers are 14-5 overall and are 8-3 in the MIVA. LUC is lead offensively by Ricky Gevis' 174 kills, while Jake Selsky leads the Ramblers' defense with 116 digs. Peter Hutz has handed out 699 assists on the season, and averages 11.10 assists per set, which is first in the MIVA.
 
The Flash fought hard against Loyola on Jan.16, but fell in three straight sets. Hogan led Saint Francis with seven kills during the match.
 
LOOKING AHEAD….
 
The Flash hits the road for a pair of games against New Jersey Institute of Technology and Princeton next weekend. The match against NJIT is scheduled for 7 p.m., while the match against Princeton is scheduled for 4 p.m.
