LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, are back on the road this weekend after hosting eight straight matches. The Red Flash take on Georgetown on Saturday at 10 a.m. before opening up NEC play on Sunday at Mount St. Mary's, beginning at 11 a.m.
The Red Flash men's team is 8-5 after falling 4-3 against Duquesne last Friday. SFU dropped the doubles points, but got singles wins from junior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ), sophomore
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and senior
Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas).
Gervais leads the team with 10 wins this spring, all at No. 1. Avuski has eight dual match victories, while Foo-Kune and freshman
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) each have seven. Junior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) has six wins, freshman
Robin van der Heijden (Burgh Haamstede, Netherlands/Scheldmond College) has four and junior
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) has three.
In doubles, Foo-Kune and Gervais have combined to go 10-3 at the top spot, while Avuski and Suntar are also 10-3 as a pair, splitting time between No. 2 and 3.
Georgetown is 5-7 this spring, with wins over George Mason, Monmouth, Navy, Wesleyan and Xavier. Last week, they dropped a 5-2 decision to George Washington. The Hoyas's Peter Beatty picked up a win at No. 3 and Will Sharton came out on top at No. 6. Daniel Khanin competed at the top singles position.
Mount St. Mary's is 7-7 on the year, with wins over Coppin State, Davenport, Howard, Rider, Shepherd, Wartburg and Webber International. The Mount fell 4-3 to Morgan State on Wednesday. The Mount also begins conference play this weekend.
Louis Tonon is 11-3 this year, competing at No. 3, while Peter Salomon is 9-1 at No. 4. Austin Blake and Mateo DeSomocurcio have combined for a 10-3 mark at No. 1.
The Red Flash women's team is 3-10 after dropping a 4-3 result against Duquesne. Senior
Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6 on Senior Day.
Gryckiewicz leads SFU with six wins this spring, while freshman

Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) and junior
Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) each have four. Junior
Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) and senior
Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) each won two matches.
In doubles, Panizza and Plaszewski have four wins at the top spot, while at No. 2 Bode and Gryckiewicz are 4-5. Jentz and Miller have three victories at No. 3.
The Georgetown women's team is 8-4 this spring, with wins over Chicago, George Mason, Loyola Marymount, Point Loma Nazarene, San Diego, Seton Hall, Towson and UC Irvine. Last week, they defeated Seton Hall, 7-0. Victoire Saperstein earned a win at the top singles spot and combined with Risa Nakagawa for a win at No. 1 doubles.
The Mount St. Mary's women's team is 3-11 this season, with wins over Coppin State, Rider and Shepherd. The Mount fell 5-2 against Howard and Morgan State earlier this week. Brittany Poje leads the squad with five victories this spring.
