LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis freshman javelin thrower
Sara Phelan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg)) has been named NEC Track and Field Rookie Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after her performance at the Bucknell Team Challenge last Saturday.
Â
Phelan produced her best performance of the month while securing a bronze medal at the Bucknell Team Challenge. The Red Flash rookie sent the javelin 44.05m to top all competitors expect for a pair of Penn State throwers.
Â
Although it was not her seasonal best, the mark stands well over the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships and is good enough to propel her into the NCAA Division I East Region Top 50. Only one NEC javelin thrower owns a better performance than Phelan this season.
Â
Phelan will be competing at the Penn Relays on Thursday.
