Men’s Tennis Falls 5-2 against Northern Kentucky

DAYTON, Ohio – The Saint Francis men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Northern Kentucky on Friday at the South Regency Tennis and Fitness Center.  The Red Flash won two singles matches, but dropped the doubles point.  SFU is now 9-7 this season.
 
At the top doubles spot, sophomore Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and senior Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) matched up against Nick Lang and Jody Maginley.  The Red Flash duo fell 6-4. 
 
Junior Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) and freshman Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) competed at No. 3 against Lukas Clemens and Adrian Isache, but the SFU pair dropped a 6-4 result.
 
In the matchup at No. 2, junior Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) and freshman Robin van der Heijden (Burgh Haamstede, Netherlands/Scheldmond College) met Court Clark and Mate Virag.  The match was tied at four when it was stopped.
 
Suntar took on NKU's Clark at the No. 4 spot.  After dropping the first set, 6-2, Suntar bounced back to win the next set, 6-3.  In the deciding set, the SFU rookie came out on top, 6-4, to improve to 9-7 on the year.
 
At No. 5, Avuski matched up against the Norse's Lang.  The Red Flash junior claimed the first set, 6-3.  He completed a straight-set victory, 6-2.  Avuski earned his 10th win of the spring.
 
Gervais competed at the top singles spot against Virag.  After falling 6-3 in the first set, Gervais responded by winning the second set, 7-6.  In a tight super-tiebreaker set, the SFU senior fell 11-9.
 
In the No. 2 spot, Foo-Kune faced NKU's Maginley.  The SFU junior dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision.
 
Tico battled the Norse's Clemens at the third position.  However, Tico fell 6-4, 6-3.
 
At the sixth spot, van der Heijden took on Isache.  In straight sets, van der Heijden lost 6-2, 6-2.
 
The Red Flash returns to action on Saturday against Dayton.  SFU battles the Flyers at 1 p.m. at the Five Seasons Sport Club.

2. Tico/van der Heijden(SFU) vs. Clark/Virag(NKU, 4-4, unfinished.
3. Clemens/Isache(NKU) def. Avuski/Suntar(SFU), 6-4.

2. Maginley(NKU) def. Foo-Kune(SFU), 6-4, 7-5.
