Women’s Tennis Falls 4-2 at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The Saint Francis women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 result at Dayton on Saturday at the Five Seasons Sport Club.  The Red Flash claimed the doubles point and earned a singles win.  SFU is now 4-13 this year, while Dayton improved to 14-8.
 
At the top doubles spot, senior Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) and junior Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) matched up against Marlys Bridgham and Mattea Kilstofte. The Red Flash pair won 6-4 to earn its sixth victory of the spring.
 
Junior Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) and freshman Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) competed against Kristina Benjamin and Claire Herdina.  The SFU duo picked up a 6-1 win to help clinch the point.
 
In the matchup at No. 2, freshman Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and senior Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) met the Flyers' Jade Kawamoto and Mandy Marchant.  However, Bode and Gryckiewicz fell 6-1.
 
Gryckiewicz took on Benjamin at the sixth singles spot.  The SFU senior claimed the opening set, 6-1.  She repeated her performance in the next set, 6-1, to complete the straight-set win.  It was Gryckiewicz's eighth win of the spring.
 
At No. 1, Panizza competed against Dayton's Bridgham.  The Red Flash senior won the first set, 6-4, but Bridgham took the second set, 6-2.  Panizza was leading 4-2 in the third set when the match was stopped.
 
Plaszewski lined up in the second spot against Kilstofte.  The SFU junior fell 6-1, 6-3.
 
In the match at No. 3, Bode met Jackie Kawamoto.  The SFU rookie dropped the first set, 6-3, but responded by winning a 6-3 set of her own.  In the deciding set, Kawamoto came out on top, 6-3.
 
At No. 4, Jentz faced the Flyers' Jade Kawamoto.  The Red Flash junior was downed, 6-2, 6-0.
 
Miller competed at No. 5 against Dayton's Marchant.  The SFU freshman fell 6-0, 6-3.
 
The Red Flash concludes the regular season next weekend with three matches on the road.  On Friday, SFU takes on NEC foe Wagner at 10 a.m.  On Saturday, SFU meets St. Francis Brooklyn for a 10 a.m. NEC match and wraps up the day with Hofstra at 2 p.m.
