Pereira Leads Field Hockey Past Towson

LORETTO, Pa. - The Saint Francis field hockey team needed just one goal to take down the Towson Tigers on Friday afternoon at DeGol Field.
 
Saint Francis improves to 3-1 on the season, while Towson falls to 0-3.
 
The Flash controlled the first half of play, outshooting the Tigers 10-1, in the first 35. SFU's best chance came off a shot from Brea Seabrook (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial), which was blocked by a Towson player. Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) saved the only Towson shot of the first half. It would remain scoreless at halftime.  
 
Saint Francis pressured early in the second half, earning a quick penalty corner but couldn't convert. Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic)'s goal came at the 50th minute mark as she beat Emilee Woodall far post. Her second goal of the season proved to the game winner.
 
Dyer posted her second shutout victory of the season.  Saint Francis held a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners and finished with 16 shots on goal.
 
Saint Francis returns to action on Sunday as they host Colgate at 1 p.m.
