Field Hockey Falls to Rider, 3-0

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Saint Francis field hockey team fell to Rider, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at Ben Cohen Field.
 
The Flash (6-3) had their chances early in the first half coming off two penalty corners but could not connect. Rider opened the scoring in the 7th minute off a Carlie Spaeder goal. Spaeder sprinted down the field after a 60-yard pass from Melissa Cunningham.
 
Saint Francis had their best opportunity in the first half when Hannah Retherford (Benton, Pa./Benton) recorded a shot on goal, but was turned away by Rider's Grace Huff. It would be 1-0 at the half.
 
Three minutes into the second half, Rider (5-4) added to their lead. Daane Koch scored off a rebound by Spaeder. The Broncs would add an insurance goal in the 53rd minute as Allison Baligian scored off a scrum in font of the goal. Spaeder was credited with the assist. 
 
The Broncs led in shots 17-6, while the Red Flash led 8-6 in penalty corners.
 
Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) made 12 saves in goal.  Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic) led the Flash with two shots, while Brea Seabrook (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial), Kyra Castano (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) and Retherford each recorded shots on goal.
 
Saint Francis returns to action on Sunday when they take on Hofstra University. The game will be played on the campus of Rutgers University and is set to start at 1 p.m.
