Swimming Travels to Boston for the New England Catholic Inivitational

Loretto, PA. - The Saint Francis swim team is set to compete at the New England Catholic Invitational, hosted by Boston College, this weekend. The two-day invitational begins at 5 p.m. on Friday.
 

The Red Flash won this invitational last year, beating out Holy Cross, Assumption College, Boston College, Merrimack, and Providence. Joining the invitational this year is Fairfield.
 

At last year's Northeast Conference Invitational, the Flash won a total 14 events. Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol), Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen), Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) and Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) each won multiple events. Quon won the 500 Freestyle in a time of 5:08.49, winning by three and a half seconds. Quon dominated the 400 Individual Medley, 4:37.27 to win by eleven seconds. In her last individual event of the weekend, Quon touched the wall in the 200 Backstroke in a time of 2:08.88.
 

Lafferty also won each of her individual events at last year's event. In the 50 Freestyle, Lafferty sprinted to the wall in a time of 24.12, to win by half a second. In the 200 Freestyle, Lafferty came to the wall in a time of 1:55.70, winning by nearly three seconds. In her last individual event of the weekend, the 100 Freestyle, Lafferty won in a time of 53.11.
 

O'Neill added to the win total, winning two of her individual events. In the 100 Breaststroke, O'Neill touched in a time of 1:08.10. In the longer of the Breaststroke events, O'Neill came away with the time, touching the wall in a time of 2:27.06, winning by four and a half seconds.
 

Bowman totalled two wins for the Flash. Bowman won in convincing style in the 100 Butterfly, winning in a time of 58.44. For her second win of the meet, Bowman swam to the wall in a time of 59.73 in the 100 Backstroke, to be the only swimmer to break the 1:00 barrier.
 

The Red Flash also dominated the relays, winning all four of them. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Quon helped the four-person team to a win, touching the wall in a time of 1:38.94. Tiberino, Quon, and Karell all return from last year's winning 400 Freestyle Relay. They won the event in a quick time of 3:38.14. Bowman, O'Neill, and Lafferty all return from a dominating performance in the 400 Medley Relay. The Flash won the 400 Medley Relay by over five seconds, touching the wall in a time of 3:58.15. This trio also returns from winning 200 Medley Relay, winning the event in a time of 1:49.75.
