STATS FCS Release

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis junior punter Andrew Zecca (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) was named STATS FCS' National Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in the Red Flash's 13-7 win at No. 22 Liberty on Saturday.  He also received NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors and sophomore linebacker Da'Jon Lee (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) was selected NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week and was an honorable mention for STATS FCS National Defensive Player Of The Week.

Zecca joins Lorenzo Jerome (Sunrise, Fla./J.P. Taravella) (September 5, 2016) and Lance Geesey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) (November 9, 2015) as SFU players to win STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week honors.  Zecca played a key role in the field position battle to help the Red Flash pull of one of its biggest wins in program history.

The junior tied an SFU game record with 12 punt attempts and set an SFU record, totaling 480 yards on those kicks for an average of 40 yards per punt.  Zecca boomed five kicks of 40 or more yards, including a season-best 62-yard punt, and placed five punts inside the 20.

His second punt of the opening quarter was a 35-yarder fair caught at the Liberty 15.  He followed that in the second quarter with a 46-yard punt fair caught at the Liberty 9, a 62-yarder downed at the Liberty 15 and a 33-yard kick downed at the Liberty 6.  The punt downed at the Liberty 6 helped lead to SFU's first scoring drive.

In the third quarter, his first punt went 48 yards, fair caught at the Liberty 7, and his second kick traveled 47 yards.  Zecca hit a 41-yard punt in the fourth quarter.

On the season, Zecca is averaging 38.8 yards per punt and has placed 11 inside the 20.

Lee was a key part of SFU's strong defensive performance on Saturday.  The Red Flash held Liberty to just seven points, over 32 points below its season average.  Saint Francis forced four turnovers, with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

The Fairfax, Va. native recorded a career-high 12 tackles, nine solo, three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and two quarterback hurries.  It marked Lee's fifth career game with two or more tackles and second game with multiple sacks.

In the second quarter, on a scramble by Liberty quarterback Stephen Calvert on 4th and 2, Lee made a stop in space to hold Calvert to a one-yard gain and force a turnover on downs.

Later in the quarter, Lee got into the backfield for a sack that resulted in a 10-yard loss to help setup SFU with great field position before its first scoring drive.  He also had a two-yard tackle for loss on Liberty's final play of the first half.

On Liberty's final drive of the game, Lee hit Calvert from behind for a strip-sack to knock the ball loose.  It was recovered by junior linebacker Sean Orsini (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) to seal the victory.

On the season, Lee has 25 tackles, 17 solo, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and four quarterback hurries.

The Red Flash, led by Head Coach Chris Villarrial, is 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NEC.  SFU, who is receiving votes in both the STATS FCS Poll and Coaches' Poll, is back on the road this week at Presbyterian, a Big South Conference team.  The Blue Hose is 2-3 this season.
