RICHMOND, Ky. – The Saint Francis Football team fell 14-10 in a tough battle at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at Roy Kidd Stadium. The Red Flash held a 10-7 lead going into the fourth quarter, but EKU re-gained the lead on the next drive and held on for the victory. Saint Francis finished the season with a 5-6 record, while Eastern Kentucky ended the year with a 4-7 mark.

Saint Francis totaled 255 yards on offense, including 167 through the air and 88 on the ground. The Red Flash had multiple drives into EKU territory, with two drives ending in missed field goals.

Quarterback Bear Fenimore completed 11-of-25 passes for 164 yards and had a one-yard touchdown run. Jorge Solano caught five passes for 58 yards, while
Cyrus Holder (Uniondale, N.Y./Milford Academy) had two catches for 43 yards and
Ra'Shaun Henry (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) made two grabs for 21 yards.Â

Fenimore finished the season with 159 completions, the fifth-most in a season at Saint Francis.Â

Byron Johnson (Germantown, Md./Northwest) rushed for 80 yards on 22 carries, and added a 30-yard catch, while Joel Denley had five carries for 22 yards.

Saint Francis held Eastern Kentucky to 220 total yards, including 108 passing and 112 rushing. The Red Flash forced two turnovers, with a fumble recovery and an interception, and tallied five tackles for loss.

Linebackers
Ben Bruni (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon),
Sean Orsini (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) and
Zane Stewart (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) shared the team-lead with seven tackles. Orsini added half a tackle for loss and an interception, his first of the season. Stewart had three solo tackles, while Bruni had half a tackle for loss. Safety
Delondo Boyd (Indian Head, Md./Henry E. Lackey) has six tackles, with two solo and half a stop for loss, while
Hakeem Kinard (York, Pa./York Catholic) had five stops, with one for loss.Â
Malik Duncan (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) had four tackles and a forced fumble, with
Louie Gartner (Bloomfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) collecting four tackles, half a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery.

Senior Tim Boyle completed 11-of-17 passes for 66 yards and an interception. Freshman Austin Scott completed all three of his pass attempts for 42 yards and added a rushing touchdown. Dan Paul caught three passes for 43 yards and Ryan Markush had three receptions for 22 yards.

LJ Scott rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, while Daryl McCleskey had 39 yards and Ethan Thomas had 32 yards.

Linebacker Jeffrey Canady led Eastern Kentucky with 15 tackles, including a sack, while cornerback Kobie Grace had eight stops and a pass breakup. Leonard Humphrey collected six tackles and a sack and Brentton Ervin and Taquan Evans each recorded a sack, with Ervin forcing a fumble and Sean Cleasant recovering a fumble. Safety TJ Comstock had an interception.

The Red Flash took a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter on a 44-yard field goal by
Eric Bofenkamp (Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy), the longest field goal of his career. The drive started after an interception by Orsini, which he returned to the SFU 48. A 30-yard reception, on a check down pass, by Johnson helped to setup the field goal attempt.Â

Eastern Kentucky answered with a nine-play, 75-drive, ending in a one-yard sneak into the end zone by Scott. A 23-yard run by Thomas and a 26-yard catch by McCleskey helped to setup EKU inside the one yard line. SFU trailed 7-3 with 8:02 left in the second quarter.

The Red Flash re-took the lead late in the third quarter on a one-yard sneak by Fenimore. A 13-play, 56-yard drive seven carries for 39 yards by Johnson and a 13-yard diving catch by Holder. Runs of seven and two yards by Johnson brought up 3rd and Goal at the 1. Fenimore took the snap and followed the left side of the line into the end zone. Saint Francis led 10-7 with seven seconds to go in the quarter.

The Colonels responded with their own touchdown drive, which finished on a seven-yard run through the left side by Scott. That concluded a five-play, 34-yard drive which began after EKU blocked a punt. Scott carried the ball all five plays, including a 17-yard gain. The Red Flash trailed 14-10 with 9:12 remaining in the game.

Saint Francis drove deep into EKU territory on the ensuing drive. Starting at its own 25, Fenimore hit Holder with a perfect over-the-shoulder throw for a 25-yard gain to the EKU 45. With three carries for a total of nine yards by Johnson, SFU faced fourth and inches at the EKU 36. Fenimore took the snap and followed the right side of the line to pick up a first down at the EKU 34. Johnson picked up another yard on second down to set up 3rd and 9 at the EKU 33. However, Fenimore's third and fourth down passes fell incomplete to end the drive.
