The Saint Francis University track & field teams opened our 2018 indoor campaigns yesterday at the Bucknell Bison Opener in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
It was a historic day for the Saint Francis women pole vaulters, as four of the best five vaults in school history took place in the same meet.
Freshman Taylor Weaver (Butler, Pa./Butler) made her collegiate debut by breaking the fifth oldest school record in the books. The previous record had stood for nearly 14 years. Weaver won the meet with a clearance of 3.75m (12' 3.5"), breaking the previous school record of 3.59m (11' 9.5") set by Mel Loughlin on January 24, 2004 in the same venue. Her clearance also qualified Weaver for the ECAC Championship.
Junior Taylor Thurnherr (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) also broke the previous school record, as she improved her personal best by four inches with her clearance of 3.65m (11' 11.75"). She is now ranked second on the SFU all-time performance list in the event. Her clearance also qualified Thurnherr for the ECAC Championship.
Senior Alyssa Sniechoski (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) improved her personal best by six inches with her clearance of 3.55m (11' 7.75"). She now stands at fourth on the SFU all-time performance list in the event.
Junior Grace Baldessaro (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) improved her personal best by four inches with her clearance of 3.45m (11' 3.75"). She now stands at fifth on the SFU all-time performance list in the event.
Sophomore Monica Lohmann (Gibsonia, Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) moved from 9th to 4th on the SFU all-time performance list in the 300m dash, as she improved her best time in the event by over a second, from 45.69 to 44.42.
Junior Nicole Egan (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) moved to 10th on the SFU all-time performance list in the 300m dash with her time of 46.82.
Freshman Christopher Frederick (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) made his debut in the 60m dash with a second place finish in a time of 6.96. With that time, he now is tied in 4th on the SFU all-time performance list in the event. He also took second in the 200m dash with a time of 22.22 that puts him at 10th on the SFU all-time performance list in this event. Frederick qualified for the IC4A Championship in both of those events.
Senior Blake Over (Roaring Spring, Pa./Northern Bedford) improved his personal best in the triple jump by close to three inches with his mark of 13.49m (44' 3.25"). That moved him from 10th into a tie for 9th on the SFU all-time performance list in this event.
Junior Dmitry Borissov (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) improved his personal best in the pole vault by six inches with his clearance of 4.35m (14' 3.25"). That moved him from 9th into a tie for 7th on the SFU all-time performance list in the event.
