Loretto, Pa- Your Saint Francis Red Flash Track and Field team is proud to announce that two athletes have won NEC Rookie of the Week.
Taylor Weaver (Butler, Pa./Butler) vaulted her way to a first-place finish at the Bucknell Bison Opener. The Red Flash freshman lifted the lid off her collegiate career by clearing 3.75m (12' 3.5"), a mark that makes her the early-season NEC leader while also guaranteeing the Keystone State product a spot at the ECAC Championships in March. Had she pole-vaulted 3.75m at the 2017 NEC Indoor Championships, she would have won a conference crown with 15 centimeters to spare. Weaver's season-opening height, which ranks sixth overall amongst ECAC championship qualifiers, matches the NEC meet record that Robert Morris' Bethany Ledford set in 2015.
Christopher Frederick (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) picked up a pair of silver medals while posting two IC4A championship-qualifying times during his collegiate debut. Contesting the 60m and 200m dashes at the Bucknell Bison Opener, the Red Flash rookie instantly established himself as a NEC title contender. Finishing second at Bucknell, Frederick clocked in at 6.96 in the 60m and moved into the No. 2 spot on the early-season NEC leaderboard as a result. He ran the 200m dash in 22.22, a time that falls to a league-leading 21.83 when converted for track size. Frederick's 200m mark is the sixth-fastest amongst IC4A qualifiers through the season's first weekend.
