LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team hosts Sacred Heart and Harvard this weekend for a pair of EIVA matches. Friday's match is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Saint Francis, lead by head coach
Mike Rumbaugh, enters the weekend with a 5-8 overall record and is 1-3 in conference play after knocking off No. 13 Penn State 3-2 on Tuesday.
Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) finished the match with 43 assists, five digs, five aces and two blocks.
Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Pepperdine)) led the Flash with 16 kills in the upset win.
FRESHMAN IMPACT
Fisher ranks second in the conference in kills per set (3.987) and first in kills (182). For his efforts against Long Beach State and Barton during the weekend of Jan. 27-28, Fisher was named Off the Block Freshman of the Week. The Mechanicsburg Pa. native currently sits in 12th in the NCAA in attacks per set (8.02).
DIGGING HIS WAY TO THE TOP
Sophomore
Gabe Woffindin (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) ranks fifth in the EIVA in digs per set (2.38) and second in digs (126). In a 3-2 win against Penn State on Tuesday, Woffindin finished with a match-high 12 digs and averaged 2.4 digs per set.
BIG THREE
Fisher,
Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) and
Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) all rank in the top-six in kills in the EIVA. Fisher leads the EIVA with 182, Hogan ranks fourth with 165 while Braswell has amassed 138 and ranks sixth. The trio has accounted for 485 kills or 74 percent of the team's kills. Hogan's 86 digs on the season ranks fourth in the EIVA.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart is riding a six-match winning streak and leads the conference with a perfect 2-0 record and is 9-1 overall. The Pioneers' only loss of the season came against No. 11 Ball State on Jan. 21. SHU swept a pair of matches against EIVA foe Charleston last weekend.
Christopher DeLucie leads SHU with 92 kills and a .341 hitting percentage, while Emerson Waumans ranks second on the squad with 77. Noah Ricchetti has amassed 172 assists on the season. Joshua Ayzenberg leads the defense with 79 digs, while Taylor Bloomquist paces SHU with 28 total blocks.
ABOUT THE CRIMSON
Harvard comes into the Loretto with a 3-4 record and is 1-1 in conference play. The Crimson fell to No. 15 George Mason 3-0 last weekend. Erik Johnson and Casey White power the Crimson offense, totaling 140 kills on the season. White also leads the Crimson with 65 digs. Marko Kostich leads Harvard with 150 assists, while Riley Moore's 25 total blocks pace HU.
SERIES HISTORY
Saint Francis leads the all-time series against Sacred Heart, 14-2, and trials the all-time series against Harvard, 8-9. SFU split both matches against SHU and Harvard last season.
