Women's Tennis Downs Lafayette, 6-1, on Saturday

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Lafayette on Saturday at the Greensburg Racquet Club.  The Red Flash won two doubles matches and five of six singles matches.  SFU improved to 3-5 on the season, while the Leopards dropped to 2-4.
 
"The girls brought more energy to their matches today," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "That was especially evident in doubles play. It is something that we have emphasized and it was good to see the girls doing a better job with it today. Overall, it was a solid performance as we kept our intensity high from start to finish.
 
At the top doubles spot, freshman Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and sophomore Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) matched up against Lafayette's Tori Almeida and Rocine Moschella.  The Red Flash duo dominated in a 6-0 win in their first match playing together this year.
 
Sophomore Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and freshman Kathryn Dunleavy (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) competed at No. 2 against the Leopards' Grace Conrad and Katie Hill.  The SFU pair, also playing together for the first time this year, earned a 6-4 win.
 
The Leopards won the match at No. 3 due to no SFU player available.
 
Gutierrez met Lafayette's Moschella at the top singles spot.  The Red Flash rookie claimed the first set, 6-4.  In the next set, Gutierrez bettered that performance, winning 6-2.  Gutierrez picked up her second win at No. 1 this spring.
 
In the match at No. 2, freshman Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) took on the Leopards' Almeida.  The SFU freshman won the opening set, 6-1.  She clinched a straight-set victory with a 6-2 win in the second set.  Seigford improved to 4-4 in dual matches.
 
At No. 3 singles, Miller faced Lafayette's Conrad.  The Saint Francis sophomore earned a 6-3 win in the first set.  Miller repeated that performance in the second set for the sweep.  Miller is now 5-3 this spring.
 
Bode met Lafayette's Lauren Tracy at the fourth singles position.  The Red Flash sophomore took the first set, 6-1.  Bode completed the straight-set victory with a 6-2 win in the next set.  Bode moved to 4-4 in dual matches.
 
In the match at No. 5, Dunleavy competed against the Leopards' Gabby Montes.  The Red Flash rookie dominated the opening set, winning 6-0.  She nearly repeated that performance in the next set, with a 6-1 win.  Dunleavy is now 5-3 this spring.
 
The Leopards won the match at No. 6 due to no SFU player available.
 
The Red Flash returns to action next weekend.  SFU travels to Temple on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match and meets Lehigh on Sunday for a 3 p.m. battle.
