LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team travels to the University of Charleston and George Mason this weekend. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m.
Saint Francis, lead by head coach
Mike Rumbaugh, enters the weekend with a 6-9 overall record and is 2-4 in conference play after knocking off Penn State and Sacred Heart.
Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) powered the Flash to a 2-1 week with 47 kills, 15 digs and 14 total blocks. On the defensive end,
Gabe Woffindin (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) contributed with 42 digs over three matches.
FRESHMAN IMPACT
Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Pepperdine)) ranks third in the conference in kills per set (3.64) and first in kills (200). For his efforts against Long Beach State and Barton during the weekend of Jan. 27-28, Fisher was named Off the Block Freshman of the Week. The Mechanicsburg Pa. native is currently 17th in the NCAA in attacks per set (7.80).
DIGGING HIS WAY TO THE TOP
Woffindin ranks third in the EIVA in digs per set (2.52) and first in digs (156). In wins against then-No.13 Penn State and Sacred Heart, Woffindin posted 26 digs. Against Harvard, the sophomore recorded 16 digs, tying a season high.
BIG THREE
Fisher, Hogan and
Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) all rank in the top-six in kills in the EIVA. Fisher leads the EIVA with 200, Hogan ranks second with 199 while Braswell has amassed 163 and ranks sixth. The trio has accounted for 562 kills or 74 percent of the team's kills.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Charleston has dropped three straight contests and enters Friday's matchup with a 7-6 record and is still in search of its first conference win. The Golden Eagles dropped a 3-1 decision to Alderson Broaddus on Feb. 14. Ryan Santos and Rajahl Moxey lead the Golden Eagles' offense. The duo has totaled 228 of the teams 504 kills. Anthony Rivera is the team leader in assists with 342, while Darrin DePellegrini ranks first on the squad with 86 digs.
ABOUT THE PATRIOTS
George Mason holds a 5-7 record and is 2-3 in conference play. The Patriots fell to NJIT and Princeton both in four sets last weekend. Jack Wilson paces George Mason offense with 120 kills, while setter Brian Negron has recorded 282 assists. Langston Payne leads the GMU defense, leading the team with 25 total blocks, while Seth Blevins' 25 total blocks ranks first for the Patriots.
SERIES HISTORY
Saint Francis leads the all-time series against Charleston, 3-0, and trails the all-time series against George Mason, 13-36. SFU swept Charleston last season, and went 1-2 against George Mason in 2016, including a loss in the EIVA Championship match.
