BOX SCORE 2 Lynchburg, Va. - Junior
Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) broke the 15-year old Saint Francis career home run record set by Jamie Krusinksy from 1999-2002 with a fifth inning grand slam to lift the Saint Francis softball team (20-8) to a 9-4 victory over Liberty, its second win of the day and fourth of the week.
Coach Patrick-Swift's Reaction
"Liberty is a very solid and well-rounded team," complimented head coach
Jennifer Patrick-Swift. "We battled against their pitchers and set the table for some big hits. Our pitching staff worked by committee to hold their big hitters to minimal damage."
"I am so proud of Jordan for her accomplishment," Patrick-Swift continued. "Her work ethic, drive, humbleness and daily pursuit of excellence played a huge role in breaking this record. I am excited she still has a ton of games left to wear in the Red Flash uniform."
Game One
This one was all Saint Francis from the onset as the Red Flash pounded out 13 hits in a 10-1 five-inning victory.Â
Sophomore
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) was the star performer with four hits, a double and home run. She scored the game's first run on a double to the gap by sophomore
Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove).
McKee gave Saint Francis a 4-0 lead in the second inning with her third home run of the season, a three-run line shot to left field.Â
Run-scoring singles from Seneca and redshirt freshman
Halle Marion (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) and a sac fly from sophomore Kassidy Troxell gave Saint Francis a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning.Â
After the Eagles got on the board with a run in the fifth, Seneca ended it with a towering three-run moon shot to left field. It tied the home run record at the time and ended the game after five innings, 10-1.
Senior
Ethel Santai (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) threw two scoreless innings and sophomore
Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) pitched the final three, allowing one run on two hits to pick up her first career victory in the circle.
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) finished a triple shy of the cycle. Sophomore
Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) added two hits. The first two spots in the Saint Francis lineup (C. McKee and Seneca) drove in seven runs.
Game Two
Saint Francis took a 1-0 lead in the third. Marion reached on a fielding error, stole second, advanced to third on an illegal pitch, and came home to score on a sac fly by senior
Kindra Witthus (Hudson, Wis./Hudson).Â
The Flames answered with runs in the third and fourth innings, the latter a home run by Tori Zavodny.Â
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning with the bases empty and one out,
Kelsie Marconi (Lowber, Pa./Yough) doubled down the left field line. Marion reached base in the next-at bat on a fielder's choice as Marconi was safe at third. Witthus tied the game with her second rbi of the game moments later, a sharp line drive to left field.
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) followed with single to load the bases for Seneca and the rest was history, literally.Â
Senenca hit a line drive home run to left center, not only breaking the 2-2 tie, but breaking the Saint Francis all-time home runs record with her 31st of her career. Twenty-nine of the 31 have come in her sophomore and junior seasons.Â
Liberty chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. The Flames left the bases loaded trailing 6-4 after a huge strikeout by Santai.
The Flames threatened again in the sixth when they loaded the bases off senior
Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston). Red Flash starter
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan)Â re-entered the game with two outs and the bases loaded, forcing a jam shot to Troxell at third to preserve the lead.
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) notched her second hit of the game to lead off the seventh, a ground-rule double. She has recorded multi-hit games in all four games this week at the Liberty Classic. Seneca walked and
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) took third on a wild pitch then scored on a Liberty error on a grounder off the bat of Norton. Troxell closed the scoring with a double down the left field line to bring in two more runs.Â
Junior
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton)Â had two hits in her four at-bats, including a double off the wall in right. Trahan picked up the win, her third in two days. Saint Francis tallied 23 hits in its 12 innings of game action on the day.
