OLEAN, N.Y. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team earned a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday. The Red Flash dropped the doubles point, but won five of six singles matches. Saint Francis improved to 4-8 this Spring, while St. Bonaventure is now 4-12 in dual matches.
Sophomore
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and freshman
Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) matched up at No. 2 against St. Bonaventure's Clara Herberts and Kahlei Reisinger. The Red Flash duo earned a 6-4 win for their first win this Spring.
At the top doubles spot, freshman
Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and sophomore
Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) competed against the Bonnies' Gabriella Bowe and Mara Martinez-Santori. The SFU pair dropped a 6-3 decision.
The Bonnies won the match at No. 3 by default due to no SFU player available.
Seigford met SBU's Martinez-Santori at the top singles spot. The Red Flash rookie claimed the opening set, 6-1, but Martinez-Santori responded by winning the next set, 6-4. In the deciding set, Seigford earned a 6-1 win for her fifth win this Spring.
Gutierrez took on the Bonnies' Bowe at No. 2. The SFU sophomore won the first frame, 6-3, but Bowe won a 6-3 set of her own in the nexyt set. In the final set, Gutierrez came out on top, 6-2. Gutierrez picked up her third dual-match win.
In the match at No. 3, Miller faced St. Bonaventure's Herberts. The Saint Francis sophomore took the first set, 6-4. She completed the straight-set victory with a 6-3 win in the second set. Miller is now 7-5 this Spring.
At No. 4, Bode competed against the Bonnies' Dominique Mortier. The SFU sophomore claimed the first set, 6-1. She earned a sweep with a 6-2 win in the second set. Bode improved to 6-6 in dual matches.
Dunleavy met SBU's Reisinger at No. 5. The Red Flash rookie took the first set, 6-4. However, Reisinger won the next set, 6-2. In the deciding super-tiebreaker set, Dunleavy came out on top, 10-6.
The Bonnies won the match at No. 6 by default due to no SFU player available.
The Red Flash continues its Spring schedule next Friday, March 17, when it hosts Niagara for a 10 a.m. match at the Greensburg Racquet Club.. SFU then welcomes Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, March 19 for a 1 p.m. contest at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.
