NFL Scouting Combine

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis safety Lorenzo Jerome (Sunrise, Fla./J.P. Taravella) continues the NFL Draft process this weekend as he participates in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.  Jerome is first player in Saint Francis or NEC history to earn an invitation to the combine. The NFL Scouting Combine will be shown live on NFL Network.

Jerome earned the invitation to the combine after his stellar performances at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and Senior Bowl.  The senior was the MVP of the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl after recording two interceptions.  He followed up that performance at the Senior Bowl with two picks and a forced fumble.

The Florida native will arrive in Indianapolis on Friday.  The combine continues on Saturday with measurements, medical examinations and team interviews.  On Sunday, Jerome will go testing, media interviews, the bench press and team interviews.  Jerome will go through on-field workouts on Monday, including the 3-cone drill, broad jump, shuttle run, vertical jump, the 40-yard Dash and positional drills.

Jerome is trying to become the first SFU player drafted by the NFL since Ed Stofko was taken in the ninth round of the 1944 draft by the Chicago/Pittsburgh Cardinals/Steelers.  The last SFU player to appear in an NFL game was Joe Restic in 1952 for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The First Team All-NEC selection led the Red Flash to a 7-5 record this season, helping SFU to win its first ever NEC Regular Season Title and clinch its first ever FCS Playoffs bid.  Jerome was named All-America by six different publications, including Athlon Sports, the Associated Press, College Sports Madness, HERO Sports, STATS FCS and the Walter Camp Foundation.  College Sports Madness named Jerome All-America as both a defensive back and a kick returner.

Jerome was selected First Team All-NEC as a defensive back and a return specialist, becoming the first player in conference history to be selected First Team All-NEC in four straight years.  Jerome was a four-time First Team selection as a defensive back and earned three All-NEC honors as a returner.

The ECAC First Team All-Star recorded 18 interceptions in his Red Flash career, finishing second all-time in SFU and NEC history.  His six interceptions this season were tied for third in the FCS.  He had two picks each against No. 13 Montana and Robert Morris, with one pick against No. 20 Albany and Malone.

Jerome was third on SFU with 59 tackles this season, including 33 solo and 5.5 for loss.  He added 2.5 sacks, five pass breakups and returned a fumble 89 yards for a touchdown, doing all of that in 10 games played.

He impacts the game in multiple ways, placing second in the FCS this year with a 28.9 kick return average after leading the nation with a 31.2 average in 2015.  He returned a kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown, off a squib kick, at Montana.  He also caught a 48-yard touchdown pass in the win at Robert Morris and completed a 33-yard pass to Zack Drayer in SFU's win over Bryant.  In his SFU career, Jerome found the end zone eight times, in five different ways, with three kick return touchdowns, two interception returns, a punt return, a fumble return and a receiving touchdown.
