LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team closes out the regular season this weekend as the Red Flash hosts George Mason and the University of Charleston. Friday's match is slated to start at 7 p.m. while Saturday's match time is set for 4 p.m.
Saint Francis, led by head coach
Mike Rumbaugh, enters the weekend with a 13-14 overall record and is 8-4 in conference play after rattling off four consecutive EIVA wins. SFU had to use five sets to defeat Harvard and four to down Sacred Heart last weekend. As it stands, Saint Francis is currently the No.2 seed in the EIVA playoff scenario.
SENIOR DAY
Saint Francis will honor the careers of
Adam Kniffen (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe),
Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria),
Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North),
Joseph Wojciechowski (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe),
Nick Bennett (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and
Tony Nicotra (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes) prior to Saturday's match against the University of Charleston.
BIG THREE
Hogan,
Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley (Pepperdine)) and
Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) all rank in the top-five in kills in the EIVA. Hogan leads the pack with 364, Fisher ranks fourth with 286 while Braswell has amassed 284 and ranks fifth. The trio has accounted for 934 kills or 71 percent of the team's kills.
ABOUT THE PATRIOTS
George Mason is 13-12 overall and is 6-6 in the EIVA. The Patriots downed NJIT in straight sets and fell to Princeton in four last weekend. Jack Wilson leads GMU with 299 kills, averages 3.40 kills per set and has recorded 27 service aces. Johnny Gomez paces the Patriots' defense, amassing 119 digs on the season while Graham Greshman leads the team in blocks with 52.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES
The University of Charleston is 12-15 overall and is still searching for their first conference victory. The Golden Eagles defeated Alderson Broaddus last Wednesday in non-conference action. Ryan Santos leads the squad with 268 kills and averages 3.23 kills per set. Santos has also recorded 106 digs on the year. Darrin DePellegrini is first on the team with 192 digs while Eugene Stuart's 62 total blocks leads the Golden Eagles.
SERIES HISTORY
Saint Francis trails the all-time series against George Mason, 14-36, and leads the all-time series against Charleston, 4-0. SFU took both matches against Mason and Charleston this season.
