LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team takes on Sacred Heart on Friday in the NEC Quarterfinals as it begins the NEC Tournament. The match will begin at 9 a.m. with the No. 4 seed Red Flash matching up against the No. 5 seed Pioneers at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 7-11 overall and finished with a 3-1 NEC record in the regular season. Saint Francis has advanced to the NEC Semifinals each of the last three seasons.
Sophomore
Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) leads the Red Flash with 10 wins this Spring. She has a 10-8 record, with her last 12 matches being played at No. 3, where he has a 7-5 record.
Freshman
Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) is 9-9 this Spring. She has played her last 10 matches at No. 1, posting a 5-5 record at the top spot.
Sophomore
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) has a 9-9 mark in dual matches, including a 7-5 record at No. 4, while freshman
Kathryn Dunleavy (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) is 9-9 at No. 5.
Freshman
Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) has eight wins this Spring. She is 6-4 at No. 2 singles, including 4-0 in conference play.
Gutierrez and Miller have combined for four wins at the top doubles position. Bode and Seigford also own four victories at No. 2.
Saint Francis earned a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart on March 24. The Red Flash won all five singles matches it played and a doubles match.
Sacred Heart is 4-13 overall and 1-4 in the NEC. Last Thursday, the Pioneers defeated Fairfield, 4-3. Freshman Brianne Lauria has three wins at No. 1 singles, while senior Taylor Gurda has five victories at No. 2 this season. Gurda has combined with sophomore Sabrina Navarro for four wins at No. 1 doubles.
The winner of the SFU-SHU match will meet the winner of the No. 1 LIU Brooklyn-No. 8 St. Francis Brooklyn match in Saturday's Semifinals.
