EMMITSBURG, Md. – Behind first-place finishes by
Dashaun Jackson (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) and
Bryce England (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg) the Saint Francis men's track and field team placed fourth out of nine teams with 112 points as the 2017 Northeast Conference Championships finished up on Sunday at Mount St. Mary's.
Central Connecticut took the team title for the fourth straight year with 146.5 total points. LIU Brooklyn finished second (134) while host school Mount St. Mary's placed third (124).
England pulled away from Sacred Heart's Connor Rog on the final lap of the 10000-meter run, placing first with a time of 31:05.01. In the 5000m, England bested the 30-athlete field with a time of 14:43.50 to cruise to a first-place finish.
Tommy Somerville (Perth, Ontatio, Canada/Perth and District Collegiate Institute) ran in the 10000m run, finishing eighth with a time of 32:12.61.
Zachery Salek (Oakdale, Pa. /West Allegheny) recorded a sixth-place finish in the 5000m run, crossing the finish line in 15:18.32.
The 4x800m relay team that consisted of
Brian Hackman (Warriors Mark, Pa./St. Joseph Catholic Academy),
Zachery Salek (Oakdale, Pa. /West Allegheny),
Jeremie Venne (Greely, Ontario, Canada/Ecole secondaire catholique Franco-Cite/ University of Ottawa) and
Michael Strosko (Eighty-Four, Pa./Canon-McMillan) placed fourth with a time of 8:09.56.
Hackman and Venne gave the Flash five points after going sixth and seventh in the 1500m run. Hackman clocked in at 4:04.32, while Venne finished in 4:06.29.
Strosko gave SFU six points after his third-place performance in the 3000m steeplechase. He clocked in at 9:40.37.
The 4x100m relay team placed fourth overall as
Christian McFadden (Odenton, Md./Arundel),
Daniel Meyer (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area), Jackson and
Keith Leckenby (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished the event in 41.92.
Meyer registered a third-place finish in the 200m dash. He clocked in at 21.62. McFadden nabbed a fifth-place finish in the 100m dash, clocking in at 10.81.
In the 110m hurdles, Jackson dominated the field with a time of 14.01 to give SFU 10 points. His time broke the all-time NEC Championship record, set by Sacred Heart's Bertony Jean-Louis in 2012 with a time of 14.03. He also took eighth in the 400m hurdles, crossing the tape in 58.21.
Shamsiddin Little (Paulsboro, N.J./Paulsboro) contributed 12 points to Saint Francis' total, taking silver in the shot put before posting a fifth-place finish in the discus. He finished with a mark of 40.47m in the discus and a 16.17m in the shot.
Sean Donoughe (Altoona, Pa,/Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic) placed fifth in the javelin after finishing with a mark of 52.08m. In the triple jump,
John Proctor (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) claimed an eighth-place finish after jumping 12.95m.
Benjamin Ross (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) earned the Flash eight points after taking home a second-place finish in the discus throw after finishing with a mark of 48.65m. He also placed fifth in the hammer throw, ending with a throw of 46.92m.
Easton Plummer (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) and
Dmitry Borissov (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) finished third and fourth, respectively in the pole vault. Plummer finished with a clearance of 4.20m, while Borissov cleared 4.05m. The duo contributed 11 points for the Flash.
Nicholas Miller (Bear, Del. /Salesianum) took third overall in the high jump, clearing 1.99m.
Next up for Saint Francis is the ECAC/IC4A Championships next weekend.
