LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team continues Fall action this weekend at the Greater Cincinnati Invitational, hosted by Northern Kentucky. The invitational begins on Friday, September 15 and concludes on Saturday.
Senior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and freshman
Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) kicked off their Fall play last weekend at the Bucknell Fall Invite. Both players went 1-1 in singles and combined to go 2-1 in doubles.
Foo-Kune, a Second Team All-NEC selection last year, defeated Howard's Karim Shokeir, 6-0, 7-5, in the Quarterfinals, before falling to Bucknell's Max Kane, 6-4, 6-4, in the Semifinals.
Pinos, making his college debut, knocked off Bucknell's Ben Gerber, 6-2, 6-2, in his First Round match but dropped a 6-7, 7-6, 11-9 decision to Mount St. Mary's Brandon Wortkotter in the Quarterfinals.
The duo defeated Lafayette's Blake Oslan and Andrew Reed, 6-2, in the First Round and Hofstra's Jan Leithner and Marcus Smith, 6-4, in the Quarterfinals before falling 6-1 to Bucknell's Gerber and Dan Wright in the Semifinals.
Sophomore
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy), sophomore
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs), freshman
Charles Morkel (Cape Town, South Africa/Paul Roos Gymnasium) and junior
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) could all make their 2017 debuts this weekend.
Luna led the NEC with 22 singles wins last year and was named NEC Rookie of the Year. Dell'eva had 17 singles and 12 doubles victories last year to be named Second Team All-NEC. Suntar also collected 17 singles and 12 doubles wins in 2016-17. Morkel was the top player for Paul Roos Gymnasium and was a member of the South African U19 School Team.
