FRESHMAN (2017-18) – NEC All-Rookie Team… Went 11-9 in singles and 4-13 in doubles this year… In dual matches, went 7-6, with five wins at No. 3 and two at No. 4… Combined with Alec Dylan Foo-Kune for a win at No. 1 doubles, Eduardo Garcia for two wins at No. 3 and Jan Vit Suntar for a win at No. 3… In NEC play, went 6-1 in singles and 2-5 in doubles.

BEFORE SFU - Morkel played the No. 1 position for Paul Roos Gymnasium.  His high school team won the championship match at the Kersney Festival, South Africa’s National Championship.  Morkel reached the semifinals in doubles in the 2016 Wanderers Junior ITF Tournament, Green Point ITF Tournament and the Boland ITF Tournament.  He was on the South African U19 School’s Team.  Morkel is ranked No. 1 in the Boland province and placed third in the Tennis South African Masters.  He was a winner of three National Open Doubles tournaments.  Morkel recorded a 4.0 GPA in high school.
