LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team is set to begin Fall play this weekend at the Bucknell Fall Invite. The tournament begins on Friday, September 8 and finishes on Sunday.
Joining the Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is Bucknell, Delaware, Hofstra, Howard, Lafayette, Loyola (Md.) and Mount St. Mary's.
The Red Flash is coming off a record-breaking 2016-17 season in which it went 15-5, a program record for wins, 4-0 in the NEC and 7-0 in home matches. SFU reached the NEC Championship Match for the second straight year.
Sophomore
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) returns after leading SFU and the NEC in singles wins with 22 to earn NEC Rookie of the Year honors. He also had 13 doubles wins.
Senior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and sophomore
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) also return after earning Second Team All-NEC honors. Foo-Kune tallied 13 singles and 14 doubles wins last year, while Dell'eva had 17 singles and 12 doubles victories.
Junior
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) is the fourth returnee from last year's squad. He collected 17 singles wins and 12 doubles victories in 2016.
Freshmen
Charles Morkel (Cape Town, South Africa/Paul Roos Gymnasium) and
Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) join the team. Morkel played No. 1 for Paul Roos Gymnasium and was a member of the South Africa U19 School Team. Pinos is ranked third among Ecuador U18s and is ranked No. 402 in the ITF Under 18 rankings.
