Men’s Volleyball Tops Alderson Broaddus in Three Sets

Loretto, Pa- The Saint Francis men's volleyball team handed Alderson Broaddus its first loss of the season in three sets at DeGol Arena on Friday Night. The Flash won 25-14, 25-23, and 25-23 in three sets.
 
On the offensive side, Cole Thompson (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos) recorded a team-high 9 kills on a .438 hitting percentage. Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) also contributed on the offensive side with 5 kills along with 6 service aces. Joseph Koszelak (North Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) dished out a game-high 21 assists and added 6 digs on the defensive side. Ryan Alu (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West HS) contributed with 8 digs.
 
SFU opened up the first set on a 5-0 run to give them a 6-1 lead. They would sustain that big lead and go on to win the first set, 25-14.
 
After the big first set win, Cole Carver (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) and Cole Thompson (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos) helped start the second set on a good note giving the Red Flash a 3-0 lead. After a couple service errors, the Battlers would inch back to cut the lead to 5, making it 11-6. Capitalizing on mistakes would eventually help the Flash regain their big lead and allow them to take set two, 25-13
 
The third set was tightly contested as the Battlers kept things close until the Red Flash went on a 3-0 run to give them a 7-3 lead. The Flash sustained that 4 point lead most of the set until the Battlers inched back to cut the lead within one, making it 24-23. ABU's run would come to an end by a service error that gave SFU a 25-23 set win and game win.
 
Saint Francis returns to action tomorrow night at DeGol Arena as the Trojans of Mount Olive come to Loretto. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
