Weekend Recap: Navy Blue and Gold Invitational

Annapolis, Md. - Facing stiff competition at the 9th Annual Navy Blue and Gold Invitational, the Saint Francis women's tennis team compiled a 2-4 doubles record and 3-8 singles record.

"I wasn't pleased with our performance in doubles," said head coach Rob Castille. "We are still trying to get our feet under us and find the right combinations in doubles play and it will be an area of emphasis for us moving forward. However, I thought the team competed very hard in singles action. Having such competitive matches against high-level competition will give us confidence that we can compete with anyone moving forward."

The teams of junior Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) and sophomore Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) and senior Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and freshman Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru) earned doubles victories for the Red Flash.

Playing in the A Flight Main Draw, Seigford/Tamarkin dropped their first match to Richmond's Owens/Zlateva (6-2) before responding with a 6-1 victory over Mary Washington's Coleman/Mirabella.

Bode and Cutipa dropped their opening match in the B Flight to Towson's Hailou/Martinez (6-1) before responding with a 7-5 victory over Mary Washington's Cooper/Dixon.
